Pauline ‘pushes’ Kathleen Wynne to put food in the budget on the eve of IWD.
Premier Kathleen Wynne at the CBC Sounds of the Season event On December 4 said “I know some of you activists are disappointed that I am not doing enough about poverty - so keep pushing me”. This was in response to a letter the Put Food in the Budget campaign wrote to her before the event.
On Monday March 4 Pauline Bryant led a group of Put food in the Budget members in calling out Premier Wynne in public as she spoke at the Toronto Reference Library on the eve of International Women’s Day.
Incredibly Pauline was booed by some members of the audience! (See video here).
We have made a commitment to confront Wynne in public as often as we can – in as many places as we can. Social assistance rates are not enough to enable people to put food in the budget. The recent budget included an increase that is less than inflation – which is effectively a cut. One member of the campaign who receives ODSP calculates that her increase equals 34 cents a day.
We encourage you to attend public meetings that Kathleen Wynne attends in your community and in the spirit of the four women in our campaign - challenge Premier Wynne publicly to demand she put food in the budget.
